About Katrina
As a therapist I understand the value of relationships and of effective communication. I strive to listen, care, guide and build relationships based on trust.
I have extensive experience in the field of addictions and psychotherapy as a group facilitator and as an individual therapist. As a former treatment team member of Pavillon Foster (a drug and alcohol treatment center) I have kept abreast of the exciting changes and challenges in the field through workshops, conferences and specialized training, including “motivational enhancement therapy” and “reality therapy”.
Throughout the years I have served on the Continuing Education Committee and the Adhoc Committee for the development of the Graduate Addiction Certificate at McGill University School of Social Work. I was Coordinator of the Graduate Addiction Certificate Program, McGill University School of Social Work and taught “Social Work Practice Applied to Alcoholism” and “Assessing and Treating Drug Abusers”. I provided onward consultation with respect to the development of addiction courses at McGill University and taught for the Aboriginal Certificate in Social Work Practice. My extensive teaching experience at McGill University, including the supervision of Masters thesis and student interns, has supported my continuing education and enriched my clinical practice.
I provide services for adults including individual, couple, group and community consultations. As a service provider for Kahnawake Community Services I provide consultations, assessments and psychotherapy to individuals and couples from the community and have gained expertise in working with the challenges confronting aboriginal communities and peoples. My experience, interest and research in the area of women’s issues afforded the development of a specialization in working with women. My approach in supporting change is solution focused, client centered and is informed by cognitive behavioral interventions. I provide assessments and individualized treatment plans that emphasize collaborative goal setting and outcome review. Short and long term consultations are available by appointment.
I have a Masters degree in Social Work (M.S.W.). I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor (C.C.C.) through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and the Quebec Counselling Association. I have a permit in Psychotherapy from the Order of Psychologists of Quebec and I am a Registered Social Worker (R.S.W.) with the Ontario College of Social Workers.
Depending upon your insurance plan my services may be covered. I invite you to inquire with your insurance provider or HR department to find out what may be covered. Receipts are always provided and may be claimed under medical expenses for income tax purposes.
